Canadian Government Boosts Centennial College's Draw In India
The acceptance rate for Indian students coming to study at 20 Canadian colleges has doubled thanks to a new joint project between Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) and the Association of Canadian Community Colleges (ACCC).
The pilot project, called the Canada-in-India Student Partners Program, was launched in April 2009 between Canada's visa offices in India and 20 participating ACCC member colleges. The goal of the program is to increase the approval rate for study-permit applications to Canada.
The announcement was made by federal MP Tim Uppal, on behalf of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister Jason Kenney, and by Paul Brennan, ACCC's VP for International Partnerships, at Toronto's Centennial College on Jan. 28. Centennial was chosen as the venue for the announcement because it has been the biggest beneficiary of the federal program to fast-track applications by visa students from India.
Canada is becoming an increasingly popular destination for international students. The total number of international students in Canada has more than doubled since 1998 to 178,000 and their presence provided employment for more than 83,000 Canadians last year. A study commissioned by Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada found international students contributed more than $6.5 billion to the Canadian economy in 2008.
During the first nine months of the program, CIC's visa offices in India received more than 4,000 applications, of which almost 600 were bound for Centennial. The program has successfully met its objective: the approval rate for the first group of students coming to study this past September was more than double the approval rate for the same colleges the preceding year. Furthermore, 95 percent of the students remain in good standing at their ACCC college. In addition, processing times are faster than the global norm, with an average of about two and a half weeks.
The program has several checks and balances, from requiring applicants to provide verifiable documentation, to a feedback mechanism where colleges report back on whether students show up. The safety, security and health of Canadians are of the utmost importance. All students who come to Canada through the Student Partnership Program must adhere to the same screening requirements as any visitor or student.
The federal government continues to look at ways to encourage international students to study in Canada. In the past, Canada has lagged behind Australia, the U.S. and the United Kingdom in aggressively marketing its colleges and universities overseas – but that is changing. At Centennial College, international student enrolment has skyrocketed in recent years; presently, there are more than 2,400 visa students on campus this winter.

so this july/august (like my other question) lol.. I am going to Australia to several places, i have a place in port douglas im staying and i have family that lives in canberra, but sydney I have been looking for hotels, and theres sooo many i must admit, this is my first time going to australia so i was looking for advice for good hotels to stay at in sydney, it doesnt have to be extreamly cheap or anything but not over priced either i dont mind paying a bit, if i get a good quality out of it, however anyway i can save money is great to, i would love something close to the water, but also close to the best parts of sydney, i like places that are historic with character but modern and chic is great too. overall just a place that will provide a great experience, i'd prefer a resort, or hotel..thanks so much!
look at places in manly! i live 20 mins from there, but manly has beaches, the harbour and ferries to get to the city, buses to go anywhere you like, restaurants, shops and its a historical place in itself. i havent stayed in any places there since im local, but yeah just look up manly corso or manly wharf hotels and you should find something you like.
if you dont like manly you could try bondi. one of the best beaches in australia ive never been to bondi so im not sure about the location of it

Having lithographs and serigraphs made of your best works is an excellent solution. You must find a lithographer who specializes in FINE ART lithographs. There is a difference, and you must pay for the true professional work. They have the same pride in reproducing your work and you do in originally creating it.
A lithograph reproduces 75 colors, and a serigraph does much more. Neither is an original.
If there are art shows in your area, take a display of several originals, and the lithographs of each of them, and a few others (warning: this is going to cost you a lot!) to the show. You will start building your reputation, and an income as well. In the meantime, if you really are good, look for some commercial sources that use that kind of thing to sell your work to, as well.
Do only limited editions, and personally sign and # them. Make too many, and the value goes down, make too few, and you don't make enough money. Talk to galleries for help with promotion, too. Find one that does work like yours, and they can really help you get off the ground.

Welcome to the second season of this ingenious and clever yet warm-hearted sitcom about sitcoms. Star Trek I : The Original Motion PictureBack when the first Star Trek feature was released in December 1979, the Trek franchise was still relatively modest, consisting of the original TV series, an animated cartoon series from 1973-74, and a burgeoning fan network around the world. Community hits an ingenious balance: it's both a top-notch sitcom about a gaggle of misfits at a community college and a satire on the very nature of sitcoms. Excerpt: Azlan McLennan (born 1975 in the United States) is a visual artist and socialist activist based in Melbourne, Australia. He is a graduate of the Victorian College of the Arts. His art is known for its political content and has been the subject of considerable debate and media attention in Australia. Proudly UnAustralian by Azlan McLennan, confiscated by the Footscray Police in Melbourne, 2006.Conceptually, McLennan's work tends to be unambiguous and antagonistic from a left-wing perspective, loosely following the traditions of agitprop, anti-art and institutional critique, incorporating elements of détournement, readymade or installation. His works have often been characterised as controversial by conservative politicians, journalists and art critics, usually portraying the artist in a negative light. Alternatively, various liberal lawyers, academics and activists have defended his works, usually on the basis of free speech, due to the offense sometimes caused by his art for its often overt left-leaning bias. The artist has expressed public criticisms over Zionism, the War on terror, Australian nationalism and racism, Mandatory detention, various political figures and the managerial class of the art world. McLennan is a member of the Trotskyist organisation Socialist Alternative. In 2009 he was elected to the University of Melbourne Graduate Student Association Council. Previously, he has been associated with the Socialist Alliance, the Melbourne Stop the War Coalition, the Melbourne Palestine Solidarity Network and the Victorian College of the Arts Student Union. He regularly produces posters for the Australian far left's various political demonstrations and meetings. In August 2003, McLennan hired a Group 4 Securicor guard to keep gallery ... More:

A collection of 700 groundbreaking sticker designs that subvert the urban environment. Stickers are an independent, creative form of expression and an integral part of contemporary street art and visual culture. Favoured amongst street artists, graphic designers, illustrators and typographers, they have become a common phenomenon throughout cities all over the world. Inexpensive and easy to pro- duce, stickers often aid in effective guerrilla advertising campaigns or individu- als making their mark on their urban landscape. Stickers 2 presents over 150 international artists who are expressing themselves through this versatile medium. Stickers are created from various materials and techniques by hand, photocopies and posters that are wheat-pasted to walls. Motifs vary from quick sketches and figures to complex designs and artworks that are often perceived as logos and tags, widely repeated and distributed through a practice called sticker bombing. The messages stickers spread are ephemeral, subversive and humorous and the simple and quick means of production lends to their flexible and spontaneous nature. Stickers 2 is a collection of over 700 stunning examples of contemporary sticker designs from around the world, spanning cities and rural areas across the USA, Brazil, Australia, Singapore and Europe. Essays and contributions by artists and connoisseurs of the scene provide further insight into the background of this underground phenomenon. The authors of this book are the founders of the International Sticker Awards.

A portrait of one of Australia's longest-serving prime ministers, this biography goes behind the public image to find neither the strong-willed man of principle his supporters like to imagine nor the cunning opportunist painted by his foes. The discussion covers Howard's suburban middle-class upbringing and his success at implementing his polices, concluding that although the image of the ordinary...

Allan FelsA Portrait of PowerThere's one certainty about Allan Fels-- People either love him or loathe him.For much of big business, he was an ogre who made their lives a misery. For consumers, however, he was a modern-day Robin Hood, fighting their battles with business and politicians. As Chairman of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, Fels should have spent a quiet career behind a desk in Canberra. But, armed with his regulatory powers and a canny exploitation of the media, Allan Fels made an indelible mark on Australia. The Australian Financial Review voted him the third most powerful person in Australia, behind Prime Minister, John Howard, and  Treasurer, Peter Costello.Yet behind the headline-hunting Fels lies a story of power in contemporary Australia: how the nation developed a competitive culture: how big business lobbied to corral him: and how politicians became envious of his media prowess. While Allan Fels projected an image of part tough regulator, part a somewhat eccentric academic, in reality he is quietly religious with a self-deprecating sense of humour.Leading journalist Fred Brenchley deftly weaves the compelling inside story of the forces that cut short Allan Fels' career as Australia's competition czar.

Excerpt: Peter John Hollingworth, AC, OBE (born 10 April 1935) is an Australian Anglican bishop. He served as the Archbishop of Brisbane for 11 years before becoming the 23rd Governor-General of Australia from 2001 until 2003. Hollingworth's time as governor-general was marred by controversy over allegations that he had not done enough to investigate charges of sexual abuse within the Diocese of Brisbane when he was the archbishop. For much of his tenure he lacked bipartisan support, with key members of the opposition Labor Party calling on him to resign. In May 2003 a report by the Diocese of Brisbane into the handling of the cases was tabled in the Queensland parliament. On 28 May 2003, despite maintaining the support of the prime minister, John Howard, Hollingworth resigned. Hollingworth was born in Adelaide, South Australia and moved to Melbourne in 1940. After attending Lloyd Street and Murrumbeena primary schools he was educated at Scotch College, Melbourne. After completing his secondary school education he began work for BHP, an Australian mining company. Hollingworth apparently often spent his lunch hours in St Paul's Cathedral in Melbourne where the idea of becoming a priest was first suggested to him. Hollingworth was conscripted for National Service in 1953 and, after basic training at the RAAF base at Point Cook, he began working in the chaplain's office and decided to test his vocation to ordained ministry. After matriculating in 1954 he enrolled at the University of Melbourne, residing at Trinity College (University of Melbourne) as a member of its school of theology. He graduated in 1960 wit... More:

Australia Airport luggage Guidelines? please help. .?
My family and I are travelling to New Zealand and we just bought suitcases, but we think they are too big or might exceed the weight load. What are the restrictions for luggage? Weight, and centimetres.
Thankyou! (:
I flew to New Zealand from Brisbane last November and from what I can remember, there isn't a specific dimensions limit. You do however have to keep your luggage under 20 kilos. If you go over you will get fined (I think it is like $10 per extra kilo after that)!
Oh and your carry on baggage has to be 7 kilos or under, but they really don't check this.

Absolutely it had been a long as well as winding road, along with myriad troubles and obstacles thrown in the path of Verbeek's men on their particular debut strategy throughout Asia. It only took fourteen matchups in total, coming from wintry winds in Kunming to the scorching temperature within the Middle East - and Verbeek with his fantastic men have become specialists at the flying visit, coming two days before a game and getting a final result. Verbeek appears to be merely appointed in Dec '07, and 2 months afterwards commenced qualification which includes a comfy 3- win over Qatar in Melbourne. Mark Schwarzer's penalty save maintained a - point.
