Renowned Australian artist Ken Johnson has put his distinctive labour of love home, Incatrole on the market to help build a much needed medical clinic in a remote area of the Himalayas, giving potential buyers a chance to own a one of a kind masterpiece.

Mr Johnson said that Incatrole is a product of his peripatetic lifestyle and varied approach to art.

I like my life to be eclectic, and I like my home to be eclectic too, he said in explaining the Moorish, Spanish, Indian, Mexican and other influences in the design, materials and artwork he incorporated into the construction of Incatrole.

The result is a home that seems to foster creativity as well as comfort.

Mr Johnson agrees. Ive done my best work here, he said. And after a tour of his studio and a detached sculptors shed that resembles a quaint 16th century English countryside cottage, its easy to see why.

In addition to the peaceful, ergonomic feel of the house and furnishings, the five acres on which Incatrole sits in rural New South Wales contains a large pond complete with picturesque windmill, rolling hills and bushland that is home to kangaroos, wombats, myriad birds including black swans, jabirus and even the occasional platypus.

It is a very private place, surrounded by bush, pastures and macadamia farms but surprisingly is only some 20 minutes from the seaside town of Byron Bay and about an hour to the Gold Coast International airport, with Brisbane less than a two hour drive away.

So why is he selling a dream home that he put so much of his life and inspiration into?

As Incatroles design and furnishings indicate, Mr Johnson has spent much time in India, where hes developed a connection with the land, history and people. During his travels he saw the need for a medical clinic in a remote part of the Himalayas, and after hearing of people dying on the long journey to seek treatment, he felt moved to do something about it. He also has plans for an orphanage that would double as a school for young sculptors.
