Sprites, Elves and Intense Lightning Discharges

Sprites, Elves and Intense Lightning Discharges

$159

Particularly intense lightning discharges can produce transient luminous events above thunderclouds, termed sprites, elves and jets. These short lived optical emissions in the mesosphere can reach from the tops of thunderclouds up to the ionosphere; they provide direct evidence of coupling from the lower atmosphere to the upper atmosphere. Sprites are arguably the most dramatic recent discovery in solar-terrestrial physics. Shortly after the first ground based video recordings of sprites, observations on board the Space Shuttle detected sprites and elves occurring all around the world. These reports led to detailed sprite observations in North America, South America, Australia, Japan, and Europe. Subsequently, sprites were detected from other space platforms such as the International Space Station and the ROCSAT satellite. During the past 15 years, more than 200 contributions on sprites have been published in the scientific literature to document this rapidly evolving new research area. The need for international information exchange was quickly recognized, and sprite sessions became a permanent feature with a constantly growing number of contributions in the scientific communities of the American Geophysical Union (AGU), the International Union of Radio Science (URSI), the International Association of Geomagnetism and Aeronomy (IAGA) and the European Geosciences Union EGU).

100 Vegetables and Where They Came from

100 Vegetables and Where They Came from

$18.95

100 Vegetables offers a veritable cornucopia of vegetables and stories from around the world, written by Weaver, a veggie connoisseur, gardener, and historian. Mixing history, culinary suggestions, and personal anecdotes, he introduces readers to unusual heirloom vegetables as well as to common favorites. Two-color throughout. Line drawings. From the Publisher A perfect leek from France. Flavorful zucchini from Italy. An infamous potato from Ireland, and a humble lentil from Ethiopia. 100 Vegetables offers a veritable cornucopia of vegetables and stories from around the world -- from Argentina to Zimbabwe, from Australia to the United States. William Woys Weaver -- veggie connoisseur, gardener, and historian -- guides us through a range of peppers, potatoes, peas, gourds, onions, tomatoes, greens, and a whole lot more. Not every carrot is the same. All beans aren't equal. Take the Petaluma Gold Rush bean, a rugged legume, grown for over 150 years and brought to California by an American whaler from Peru. Or the violet carrot, which the Greeks brought back from India following the conquests of Alexander the Great. Mixing history, culinary suggestions, practical information, and personal anecdotes, Weaver introduces us to unusual heirloom vegetables as well as to common favorites. He provides answers to general questions, such as the difference between a yam and a sweet potato, and presents lively portraits of one hundred vegetable varieties, which he's grown and harvested in his own kitchen garden. Organized alphabetically by common name, 100 Vegetables includes beautifully detailed drawings throughout and a helpful appendix of seed resources.

$8.41

Purchase includes free access to book updates online and a free trial membership in the publisher's book club where you can select from more than a million books without charge. Not illustrated. Excerpt: Sir Lionel Arthur Lindsay (17 October 1874 22 May 1961) was an Australian artist. Lindsay was born in the Victorian town of Creswick, the brother of artist Norman Lindsay and artist and critic Daryl Lindsay and of the relatively unknown artists Ruby Lindsay and Percy Lindsay. Lionel Lindsay became a pupil-assistant at the Melbourne Observatory (1889-1892) and later studied at the National Gallery School, Melbourne and in George Coates' rooms. Lindsay taught himself etching and engraving in the 1890s while a student, immediately prior to his first trip to Spain and England. On his return to Australia he settled in Sydney as a freelance artist and journalist, contributing to the Bulletin and other magazines and newspapers. In 1907 he held an extremely successful exhibition of etchings in Sydney with the Society of Artists. The two decades after 1907 saw him active with the Society of Artists and in 1921, when the Australian Painter-Etchers' Society was formed, Lindsay was its first president. He began to exhibit in London in 1923 and had his most successful exhibition of that period at Colnaghi, a London art dealer, in 1927. Colnaghi's Galleries and the critic Harold Wright led British interest in Lindsay's work and guaranteed his reputation as a major British printmaker and watercolourist. Key themes in his oeuvre include the swagman in the outback, old Sydney, portraits of prominent Australians, romantic views of Spain and Arab culture, a series of classically inspired works and birds and animals. Lindsay became a Trustee of the Art Gallery of New South Wales and was knighted for his services to Australian art in 1941. In 1942 Lindsay published Addled Art, a vituperative and anti-semitic attack on modernism in art. Lindsay's... More:

Purchase includes free access to book updates online and a free trial membership in the publisher's book club where you can select from more than a million books without charge. Excerpt: John Lhotsky (1795 - 1866) was a Galicia-born Austrian naturalist, lecturer, artist and author. He wrote and published on the topics of zoology, botany, geology, geography and politics. Lhotsky was active in the early colonies of New South Wales and Tasmania from 1832 until 1838. Lhotsky, whose first name is also given as Joannes Lhotsky, Johann Lhotsky and Jan Lhotsky, was born in Lemberg, Galicia, Austrian Empire (now Lviv, Ukraine), the son of Joseph Lhotsky. He moved to Vienna in 1812 and was awarded his doctorate from the University of Jena. He became a member of the Bavarian Botanical Society during this period. In 1819 he published a botanical work Flora Conchica, and other papers for scientific journals, however, his political writing led to a prison sentence of six years. He was released in 1828. Lhotsky was commissioned, by Ludwig I of Bavaria, to explore and describe the 'new world', spending eighteen months in Brazil before travelling to Australia. He landed at Sydney on 18 May 1832, moved to Hobart in 1836, and sailed to London 1838. While in Australia, and after his return to Europe, he published seminal works on a range of topics. In addition to his books and articles, his works include landscape paintings, and zoological and botanical illustrations. He produced numerous articles for newspapers and scientific journals, describing his investigations of the natural history of Australia. His first work on this topic is supposed to have been 'Australian sketches, no l', anonymously published in the Sydney Gazette. The account of his expedition, A Journey from Sydney to the Australian Alps, was important for the description of the Monaro region and Snowy River. Kangaroos

The kangaroo is a singular creature. What other animal can jump a distance of 28 feet, or a height of 6 feet? What other animal can hop at speeds of 43 miles per hour? What other animal uses its muscular tail as a third “leg” to help balance and stabilize and holds kickboxing matches to determine breeding rights? There’s only one animal that fits this description—the kangaroo.

At the mention of the word kangaroo two words instantly jump into people’s minds: pouch and Australia. Indeed, these large marsupials are natives to the land down under. Three species of kangaroos populate the continent: Reds, Eastern Grays, and Western Grays. Since man appeared 50,000 years ago kangaroos have been an important resource to Australia’s Indigenous peoples and have been used for food, clothing, and shelter. They are still hunted today, but only under strict government control. Specially adapted for the fragile ecosystem, kangaroos thrive in their home.

Kangaroos are the largest surviving marsupials in the world. A male buck can reach 6 ½ feet tall, and weigh 200 pounds. Female flyers are slightly smaller. Their babies, called joeys, are born at only 31-36 days gestation. (This is developmentally equivalent to a 7 week old human embryo!) At only 0.35 ounces, the joey’s forelimbs are developed enough to climb from the birth canal to its mother’s pouch, where it attaches to one of four teats. There it stays cuddled up for nine months, transforming from a hairless, pink, bean-sized mite, to an irresistibly furry, doe-eyed darling. Then it will venture out of the security of its pouch for a short adventure before hopping back in. Its mother will feed and protect it another nine months, until her next joey is born. Flyers are perpetually pregnant once they reach maturity. Immediately after giving birth they go into heat. The fertilized embryo will go into a dormant state until the older joey has vacated the pouch. The milk produced by the flyer is specially suited to its growing joey’s needs. If she is simultaneously feeding an older and a younger joey, a flyer may produce two different kinds of milk!

The rangeland where kangaroos graze is hot and arid, but kangaroos are suited for their environment. To conserve energy and keep cool kangaroos are crepuscular, meaning that they rest during the day and are most active at twilight hours. They shelter under trees and in caves and rock clefts during the day. Instead of sweating and panting, kangaroos lick themselves all over to cool off. Their long hindquarters have a stretchy tendon and studies have shown that even the kangaroo’s breathing is synchronized with their rhythmic leaping. In this way their agile bodies are designed to be fast and energy-efficient, two important qualities that are needed to cover the long distances in search of food and water. Kangaroos are not built for walking, and their legs do not move independently of each other. Because of this they cannot walk backwards. This fact won kangaroos a prominent position on the Australian coat-of-arms, where it symbolized progress and forward movement.

Kangaroos travel in groups of ten or more called mobs, led by the largest dominant male, called the boomer. Boomers may wander in and out of the mob, but they retain exclusive breeding rights with the females. If the mob is approached by an infrequent predator, (dingoes, dogs, and carnivorous reptiles represent the kinds of animals who may prey on kangaroos), the group will scatter. Sometimes a kangaroo will fight its enemy, and can be a formidable foe. Using its front paws to hold its attacker, the kangaroo will disembowel the enemy with its powerful hindquarters. Few people know that kangaroos can swim, and they will sometimes lead an attacker to a pool. There they will hold the enemy underwater and drown it. These traits, as well as their ability to reproduce so rapidly, give kangaroos an advantage in the wild, where they are abundant. Kangaroos live 9-18 years.

The story is told about how kangaroos got their name. When Europeans first landed on the Australian continent they saw the creature for the first time, and in astonishment they asked an aborigine what it was called. The aborigine responded, “Kangaroo,” meaning I don’t understand your question. The Europeans thought that was its name, and from that time forward the world learned about the unique marsupial of Australia—the singular kangaroo.

australia journals
According to the extract below, why is an Australian newspaper or journal needed?

[this is from the Advance Australia Journal]
We come into existence because we believe there exists a necessity for such a journal as we purpose to be - a national newspaper. We belong not to party-politics nor religion. Protection nor free-trade shall have no place in our columns. Australia - the land of our birth is the star that shall guide us, and the advancement of all that tends to her welfare is our high aim.
We belong to no province in particular. The welfare of Australia as a whole, and not the parish politics of any one part, is the matter which shall have our deepest concern. We are not Victorian, nr South Australian in our proclivities; neither do we incline towards New South Wales. We are Australians; and the interests of the commonwealth shall be striven for with singleness of aim.

Looks like it's referring to freedom of speech and censorship in my view. Makes sense 'cause there's a hell of a lot of conspiracy theorists out there and I'm sure this would sell heaps if it mentioned that it prints the truth.

Medical Recruitment Australia Deficit

During the current global economic crisis, developed nations of the world are taking many steps to protect both local economies and jobs of its citizens. A high rate of unemployment means less consumer confidence and reduced spending. No government wants to reduce its economic figures in previous years, so they are doing everything possible to encourage consumer spending and market activity.

The average person just keep spending at high rates if they are current or former first course, all employees, and even more so if they have confidence in security work. Some countries in recent weeks have been limited to the level of migration of skilled workers to their countries to keep more jobs work available to their citizens today.

An example of this is in Australia, a country famous for the welcome and skilled workers from other countries to help to fill positions where labor shortages often occur. Have reduced the number of new jobs in many industries that can provide skilled migrants.

There are exceptions to this rule, however, where the shortage of labor will always exist. An example is the medical industry. Hospitals have reported as little personal and periods of long training and specific niches in the industry and the stress of many medical jobs, is difficult to cover the shortage of people fast local. This is where skilled immigrants make up the shortfall in the health care industry.

Is a global phenomenon that each Once again the world's population shifts from rural areas to the city. Australia is no exception to this rule. There are many well-documented effects of this situation, as increasingly overcrowded cities, increased levels of pollution, increased costs in cities and so on. But there is also the amount of consumption skilled workers in many industries in rural areas. Once again, industry, health care is one that strives to maintain adequate levels of skilled professionals doctors, nurses and more.

This provides a great opportunity for healthcare professionals from developing countries wishing to emigrate to Australia with a large opportunity to accumulate more money and experience a rich cultural experience.

The Australian government is also trying to attract workers health of cities to rural areas with tax breaks and other incentives to those who accept positions rural doctor.

There are websites you can visit aimed specific jobs in the care of doctors seeking jobs or substitutions throughout Australia. The ability of insect flight

How can the mosquito manages to flap their wings 1000 a new period of return? How to jump hundreds of mites while their height? Why a butterfly flies forward to beat their wings up and down? The fly is one of the creatures mentioned in the Quran because only one of many animals that describes the extreme events of our Lord. Almighty God speaks of this masterpiece in verse 73 of the Qur'an al-Hajj:

Men! An image was made, from what I hear a lot. Those who invoke God's victory are not even able to design an airplane alone, even if they have been in place for do so. And if a fly steals something from them, can not go back. How low are both researcher and dear! (Sura al-Hajj: 73)

Although research recently, despite all the technology that God has made available to mankind, many features of the life of the clothes still miraculous aspects of their field. Al As in all the clothes that God has molded into the body of a fly pattern gives abundant data indicator. Given its complexity, any thought can be again low to consider their religion to Allah and to Him fervently.

Some research scientists agreed exhaust systems and other insects Small full below. The conclusion that emerges from all this is that nobody pell-mell, to force the pain and mistakes or anything else that God could have given form to the complexity of even a fly.

Travel muscles of various insects such as locusts and dragonfly firmly committed to the effect of stimuli emitted by the nerves that carry out all their movements. In cricket, for example, the signals sent by base every nerve, muscle travel with caution. By running the alternative, not against each other, two complementary groups of muscles, lifts and falls, he said, allowing the wings up and down on. Grasshopper flap their wings 12 to 15 times back and able to fly any insect must beat even faster. Bees, wasps and flies flap their wings 200 to 400 once in the respect and mosquitoes and parasites, some only 1 mm (0.03 in) size, the price rises to an astonishing period of 1000 the support! Wings beating too fast for the eye to see the soul is bowed with a unique need for sustained action.

A nerve is able to mount more than 200 signals an flash. So how can a small insect flapping its wings 1,000 times per minute? Research has established that in these insects, there is one head in neural signals and the frequency of wing beats.

Bluebottle flies flap their wings 200 times per minute, but their structures and muscles are very different from locusts. A sign has the nerve of 10 wing beats. Moreover, these so-called "muscle cartilage" a very different locusts. nerve impulses only normalize muscle preparations for travel. Once the muscles to achieve an exact voltage is get on your own.

These unique systems, Dual independent body of each insect, there is the slightest irregularity. Your nerves do not emit a false signal, and always figure out exactly insect muscles.

In species such as flies and bees, the muscles Ala transport even found! Instead, be placed in the chest at the joints to fill a kind of center, while the muscles to steal the upper wings are friendly and the bar surface upper chest. When these muscles contract, the chest drew out and flattened down wing construction. The side wing assembly provides management support and fuel the revolt. The establishment of the muscles by Travel is not attached to the vertical wing, but operate along the chest. When these muscles contract, the chest is retracted in the opposite direction, and wings have been reduced so emaciated.

The wing fold is formed of a single protein called resilin, which has exceptional elasticity. Since your skin is much more than rubber real or unreal, chemical engineers are difficult to repeat the substance in the laboratory. Flexion and markets resilin can deposit most of the energy exerted on it, and when the force this vital issue is raised, is able to return all that energy.

In response, resilin is 96% measured. During wing revoke the 85% of the energy is stored for later, this same energy is again focused on the reduction of supply and promotes the transfer of the insects. His chest parapet and muscles were produced with an unusual measures to enable the accumulation of energy. However, energy is stored in the joints composed of resilin.

It is of course impossible that an insect, using its own pain, to have a special unit for the trip. Unlimited intelligence and power God has prepared this resilin exclusively in the bodies of insects.

the effectiveness of group travelers right up and down the wing alone is not enough no .. To be able to kick and push propulsion, wings must also change its angle of movement with each beat. insect wings "have a special drawing flexibility, depending on the species, which muscle is provided by exhaust phone call (or DFMS of stunting) of food suitable for a breakaway forces.

When insects called up in the air, spread its wing contractor added target these muscles between the joints of the wings. Fast-scaffolding and photographs to stop the activity, showed that during the trip, enjoy a course elliptical wings and the sequence of each wing, its slope changes systematically. Schedule changes the origin of this variation of the muscles and sincere attachment of the leaf in the body.

Most of the problems encountered by the insect species to very low air resistance during the trip. For them, the fresh air density becomes a problem for these creatures that can not be underestimated. In addition, restrictive layer around the wing causes the air hanging in the wings, first casualty on the efficiency of travel. To be able to overcome air resistance, as Forcipomya flies, whose wings are more than 1 billion expansion flash time must overcome 1000.

Scientists estimate that, in theory, although this rate is insufficient to keep these insects at high altitude, and must Additional use another technique. In particular, Anarsia, a kind of leech, use a method known as "jarring." When the wings to reach heart increased in brightness, they weight each other, then open again. Like the wings, with its current sequence, the air before the last first defines a flow around the wings and help raise the flapping wings to impose.

Many species of insects, including desert, take note of the visual data such as the horizon line to determine your travel route and destination. To determine its position, flies were trained with an ever more extraordinary. . These insects have a single pair of wings but the back of each there is a hump-shaped lobe known as the halter. While the sun does not generate a lift force, the shaking of the front fenders. When shifting your starting address these wing extensions across different sheets.

All information the impact of engineering in the theft of only three or four species of insects. Please trend as the total number of insect species on Earth is about $ 10 million. Given all these millions of sustainable species, with the skin a number of them understand, we must also promote a snowball to ask God's infinite power.

Scientists in parts of the fruit fly gene and managed resilin truly mimic this protein by injecting the gene into the bacterium Escherichia coli.

In a report by the Australian Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO), scientists have identified the gene that produces resilin insects has also identified different polymer that can verify useful in medicine venous diseases. The studies began in the 1960's, focusing on desert locusts and dragonflies, was a fundamental reason for advancing this important measure.

Resilin, which also gives insects can huge jumps, gives these insects and an uncanny ability to move. Thanks for this substance, vermin are able to start hundreds of times their size and the flies are able to flap their wings more than 200 times per second.

The protein obtained from resilin is much better than the harvest rubber film as the head to withstand the force and return its natural past. Continuing experiments on artificial resilin show that the protein retains these features.

The majestic scientific belief that polymers obtained from insect gene cloning can be used in a variety of different fields, from medicine to commerce. However, perhaps the most important of these applications is the treatment of arterial disease in humans. Because resilin as elastin protein in the veins of man, the optimism of Scientists studying the elasticity of the veins renewed.

Robert Cormier (pronounced kor-MEER) lived all his life in Leominster, Massachusetts, a small town in the north-central part of the state, where he grew up as part of a close, warm community of French Canadian immigrants. His wife, Connie, also from Leominster, still lives in the house where they raised their three daughters and one son–all adults now. They never saw a reason to leave. “There are lots of untold stories right here on Main Street,” Cormier once said.A newspaper reporter and columnist for 30 years (working for the Worcester Telegram and Gazette and the Fitchburg Sentinel), Cormier was often inspired by news stories. What makes his works unique is his ability to make evil behavior understandable, though, of course, still evil. “I’m very much interested in intimidation,” he told an interviewer from School Library Journal. “And the way people manipulate other people. And the obvious abuse of authority.” All of these themes are evident in his young adult classic and best-known book, The Chocolate War. A 15-year-old fan of his said, “You always write from inside the person.”Cormier traveled the world, from Australia (where he felt particularly thrilled by putting his hand in the Indian Ocean) and New Zealand to most of the countries in Europe, speaking at schools, colleges, and universities and to teacher and librarian associations. He visited nearly every state in the nation. While Cormier loved to travel, he said many times that he also loved returning to his home in Leominster.Cormier was a practicing Catholic and attended parochial school, where inseventh grade, one of his teachers discovered his ability to write. But he said he had always wanted to be a writer: “I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t trying to get something down on paper.” His first poems were published in the Leominster Daily

He later was a pastor in Hobart, Tasmania, and then on mainland Australia in Melbourne at Armadale and Kew. It is an expiration date for a reason - you drink milk after the expiration date? You may request an extension, but it takes a very good reason ...

my guinea pig is to eat daily?

my guinea pig mites patient just had a bathh and she sits on my lap in a newspaper puppy in the basket. it will not stop eating the paper and if I try to get out of my mouth that bites or she is pulled. REALL can get sick from eating it by the way the paper is the Daily Telegraph in Australia, too, am trying to offer carrot, but she isn't taken to a lot too when I left my front door to CCAG put there fell into spasms and was a bit, you will be fine as soon as we put it on the floor of my house got up and started eating the carrot and walk around this was after he had finished bathroom and wiping

The ink should not hurt, but not allow me to chew on. Take it away. Indeed, if you have mites, bathing only worsens the condition. When bathing them, have only caused her skin to dry even more. Please take her to the vet and responsible!
