Question by Hamirow: is there any Australian online shopping website where i can buy an Ipod or something?
I am in England and want to buy a present (ipod) for a friend in Australia. I thought it would be easier to buy it from an australian website and have it posted to it? Ebay doesn't have australian branch and few australian items are sold on Ebay.co.uk?

If you seriously want to buy something for a friend in AUS, then call a Large Store in Aus, Myers, J&B Music, etc, and they will ship it off for you. I have done that for bunches of stuff from Here in the US, and its great Value. Cost for the call is cheaper than Mail, and the Product gets there in no time.

Australian Healthy Shopping Guide

Shopping is no longer a simple matter of ducking quickly into the supermarket to pick up a few familiar items. The brightly-coloured shelves are packed with a bewildering range of products, all with labels like 97% fat-free, low-carb, heart-healthy or high fibre. Some claims conform to strict guidelines but many a so-called health benefit is simply a marketing ploy. How can you be sure you have chosen the healthiest item available, particularly if you are trying to lose weight or manage diabetes

Why Do Aussies Stick To Shopping At Australian Websites?

Australians remain loyal to their country by doing their best to shop from Australian websites. But is it just loyalty to Australia that keeps them shopping at home.  There are many reasons for Australian shoppers to buy online at Australian websites.

For starters, the goods are usually shipped from Australia, whether they have been manufactured in Australia or shipped from an Australian warehouse. Delivery from Australia has a number of benefits. Delivery should in most cases be faster than international shipping.  With less handling from warehouse to customer you would expect there to be a reduced chance of damaged goods being supplied.  And whilst a products price can be cheaper at an international supplier this is all too often eroded through the additional delivery cost to ship the goods overseas.

When shopping internationally, Aussies remain concerned about the creditability of the company they are dealing with, particularly when they are not familiar with the international brand. They may feel they are dealing with a company or supplier that is unreachable or may not even really exist.

If there are problems with supply and delivery, Aussies want to feel they can easily contact somebody in their own country to discuss their concerns.

Then there is the issue of currency conversion.  Many international suppliers do not provide a website that shows the cost in Australian Dollars.  An Aussie customer is faced with the inconvenience of converting the goods price themselves and must trust in both their calculations and the supplier's calculations.

Australians like to support their country using products manufactured in Australia. Whilst the term "Made in Australia" does not always mean that the company is Australian owned, if at least part of the supply chain is based in Australian, a shopper is supporting local workers.

Such is the loyalty that Australians display for Australian suppliers; there are websites and guides that are devoted to Australian suppliers.  For example supplies a guide to enable shoppers to determine what labels are Australian owned and those that are not.   There are sites like which support Australian shops by providing a comprehensive directory of Australian shopping websites.  This site also includes an that helps you to locate an Australian website that sells the product or service you are looking for.
